What to do after signing up at BitMart

We cover identity verification separately for PC/browser and smartphone (mobile).

PC/browser identity verification

After sign-up, BitMart shows an “Identity verification” checklist. The first item, “Create an account”, is already marked “Completed”.

The second item, “Complete identity verification”, is still pending — this is the identity check that unlocks deposits and trading. The third item, “Add funds over 100 USDT”, stays pending for now.

Click “Verification Now” to start the identity check. The “Level 1” verification window opens.

The BitMart referral code cannot be added after sign-up

The referral code can only be entered at sign-up — it cannot be added afterwards.

If you complete account registration without entering the referral code, it cannot be linked to that account afterwards — so double-check the field before you finish sign-up.

If you have not yet completed KYC (identity verification), creating a fresh account is still an option.

What is BitMart

Who BitMart is: founding, scale, and product range

BitMart launched publicly in March 2018, built on a company Sheldon Xia founded in 2017, and today it reads less as a single-country exchange than as a multi-entity global operator. That structure is worth stating plainly rather than treating it as a warning sign: the group is registered in the Cayman Islands as its governing law, contracts with users through GBM Global Inc. in the Marshall Islands, runs its operating company Bachi.Tech Corp out of New Jersey, and serves EU customers through UAB GBM Global in Lithuania. Leadership turned over recently, with Nenter (Nathan) Chow taking over as global CEO in April 2025 and founder Sheldon Xia moving to Group President.

#45CoinGecko spot rankTrust Score 7/10
#10CoinMarketCap derivatives rankas of 2026-07-16

Those ranks tell the real story of where BitMart sits. Its reported spot turnover runs somewhere between 1.5 and 1.9 billion USD over 24 hours depending on the source, with CoinPaprika flagging a wash-trading concern, while derivatives volume reaches into the tens of billions and swung a volatile +411% on our snapshot day. Read together, this is a mid-tier spot venue attached to a top-ten derivatives book — a profile that shapes who the exchange actually suits.

The product surface is wide. Beyond spot trading (1,700+ advertised assets, of which 1,072 are tracked by CoinGecko), BitMart runs USDT- and coin-margined perpetual futures with leverage up to 200x on BTC and ETH, margin, an Earn suite, copy trading, a Web3 wallet, and NFTs, alongside a BitMart Visa card. In the first half of 2026 it added a tokenized-TradFi zone of 200+ USDT-settled assets, folding traditional markets into the same account.

Trading costs and the BMX native-token discount

Spot

Standard trading fee

Commonly cited at 0.25% maker and taker, though one source cites 0.15% and rates vary by pair class.
Futures

Perpetual trading fee

A flat 0.02% maker and 0.06% taker.

Headline tiers as of 2026-07-16; BitMart publishes a fuller schedule that shifts over time. Separately, BitMart’s own BMX token works as a fee-utility token: paying trading fees in BMX cuts the spot fee by 25%. That reduction is a native-token mechanism tied to holding and spending BMX — a different lever from the exchange’s published fee schedule.

What makes BitMart distinct

Listing breadth, tokenized TradFi, and high-leverage derivatives

What sets BitMart apart is less any single feature than a particular combination that few peers assemble in one account. It leans hard on early listings: an altcoin and small-cap catalog fed by a Launchpad that has hosted 379 projects, which makes it a place where long-tail tokens tend to appear early. On top of that, it merges crypto with a tokenized slice of traditional finance — stocks, gold, the S&P 500, oil, forex and indices — inside one USDT-settled interface, adds perpetual futures with leverage up to 200x on BTC and ETH, runs the BMX exchange-token fee model, and issues a BitMart Visa card usable across 115+ countries with spending rewards of up to 5.5%.

A mid-tier spot venue but a top-ten derivatives venue — BitMart fits traders who weight listing breadth and leverage over top-tier spot depth.CoinGecko spot rank #45, Trust Score 7/10; CoinMarketCap derivatives #10

When another venue is the better call

Breadth is not the whole picture, and there are readers a peer serves better. Anyone who puts security and transparency first may reasonably prefer an exchange with an audited comprehensive Proof of Reserves, because BitMart has none and carries a major 2021 hack in its history. And residents of New York State cannot use the global platform at all, which settles the question before features enter into it.

Read the numbers with careReported volumes mix spot and derivatives and can include wash trading, and listed-coin counts can be inflated. Weigh BitMart on a few fixed, neutral metrics rather than on headline volume alone.

BitMart regulatory landscape

License footprint: US money-transmitter stack and the EU MiCA path

BitMart’s regulatory footprint is best read as a set of named-jurisdiction footholds rather than a blanket global permission. In the United States it holds a FinCEN MSB registration dating to 2018-04-30, layered with state Money Transmitter Licenses, and reached full 50-state BitMart US operations in February 2026. In the European Union it operates as a registered VASP through UAB GBM Global in Lithuania and is transitioning toward MiCA CASP authorization.

Read together, these are footholds expanding into regulated markets, not evidence that the global platform is authorized everywhere it can be reached.

The regions BitMart walls off — and where SG/AU sit

CubaCrimeaFranceHong KongIranNorth Korea (DPRK)the NetherlandsNew York StateDNRLNR

These exclusions are set out in BitMart’s global User Agreement §1.5, last updated 2024-12-30, with New York State additionally singled out as the one partial, restricted jurisdiction. As of 2026-07-16 there are no confirmed, dated market-exit events beyond this standing list. Worth noting for this guide: neither Singapore nor Australia appears anywhere on it, so the global platform stays reachable for readers in both — which is why neither gets a dedicated country breakdown in the next chapter.

Regulatory trajectory and the separate BitMart US entity

The direction of travel runs two ways at once. BitMart is pushing into regulated markets — full 50-state US operations, the EU MiCA transition, and Travel Rule work in South Korea — while keeping a broad restricted-country list firmly in place.

One structural point sets up the country-by-country read that follows: US users are served not by the global platform but by BitMart US at bitmart.us, a distinct entity with its own onboarding and KYC.

BitMart availability across major jurisdictions

Where BitMart stands depends heavily on where you sit. Of the five markets this guide addresses, three need a closer look — the United States, the United Kingdom and India — because in each the global platform is either off-limits, closed to new sign-ups, or an unregistered offshore option. Singapore and Australia are the straightforward cases: neither appears on BitMart’s exclusion list, so the global platform remains reachable there.

United StatesUse bitmart.usglobal platform not offered to US persons
United KingdomClosed to new retailFCA-registered routes instead
IndiaUnregistered offshorenot FIU-IND registered

United States: sign up on bitmart.us, not the global exchange

The global BitMart platform is not built for US readers: its User Agreement lists the State of New York among excluded regions, and it does not offer futures or derivatives to US persons. The route that exists is a separate BitMart entity rather than a competitor — BitMart US, at bitmart.us, which runs its own onboarding and KYC, covers all 50 states and US territories (since around February 2026) with zero-fee spot trading, and delivers that all-state regulated capability through its infrastructure partner Zero Hash, a stack that is FinCEN MSB-registered, NY DFS-authorized and NC trust-chartered.

One honest limitation belongs here: whether BitMart US runs its own referral program is unconfirmed, so the code cyFge7 cannot be assumed to apply there. US readers should sign up on bitmart.us and confirm any code or offer officially, rather than on the global exchange.

United Kingdom: closed to new retail sign-ups, FCA-registered routes instead

BitMart itself stopped accepting new UK retail registrations on 2023-10-08 (per its own announcement, FPO 2005 exemptions aside), so a new UK reader cannot open a global BitMart account in the ordinary way. It also sits on the FCA Warning List, added 2024-09-06, with no FCA registration, and crypto-derivatives are banned for UK retail across the industry under PS20/10. The practical route is an FCA-registered alternative.

Coinbase
On the FCA cryptoasset register since February 2025 (CB Payments Ltd, FRN 900635), with a direct GBP Faster Payments on-ramp and GBP trading pairs.
Kraken
An FCA-registered cryptoasset firm (Payward Limited, FRN 928768) paired with an FCA-authorized e-money institution (Payward Services Limited, FRN 1010381) for GBP rails, plus a long UK history.
Crypto.com
An FCA-registered cryptoasset firm since August 2022 (Foris DAX UK Limited) with an FCA e-money authorization, offered through its app and Exchange.

All three offer no retail crypto-derivatives in the UK under the PS20/10 ban, and all are locally regulated GBP routes — set against BitMart’s unauthorized, Warning-Listed UK posture.

India: an unregistered offshore option under tightening enforcement

BitMart is not registered with FIU-IND, unlike compliant peers such as KuCoin, Binance, Coinbase and Bybit. It was absent from both waves of offshore-exchange enforcement and stays technically reachable — but a new Indian user would be signing up with an unregistered offshore platform under an enforcement regime that keeps tightening. The safer, domestically regulated route is an FIU-IND-registered exchange.

CoinDCX
FIU-IND-registered (Neblio Technologies), with INR rails via IMPS, NEFT and UPI and automatic 1% TDS deducted at source.
CoinSwitch
FIU-IND-registered (Bitcipher Labs), with UPI, IMPS and NEFT INR rails and automatic 1% TDS.
ZebPay
Dual FIU-IND and AUSTRAC registration, with INR rails and one of India’s longest domestic track records.
Binance
FIU-IND-registered on 2024-08-15 — the closest legal global-brand analogue — with INR access through P2P, a BNB-based fee reduction, and automatic 1% TDS.

The registered domestic options deduct the 1% TDS (Section 194S) at source and carry PMLA and AML compliance, whereas an unregistered offshore exchange leaves tax self-reporting to the user.

Risks to acknowledge before using BitMart

Every risk below is anchored to BitMart’s own record rather than to generic crypto cautions, because the track record is what tells you how the exchange behaves under stress.

Counterparty health: the 2021 hack and unaudited reserves

In December 2021 a stolen or compromised private key drained BitMart’s hot wallets on Ethereum and BNB Chain. Security firms put the loss at around 196 million USD; BitMart cited around 150 million. The company pledged to reimburse affected users from its own funds.

Proof of Reserves
No audited comprehensive Merkle-tree Proof of Reserves; described as in progress.
Security grade
CER.live grade A (80/100); funds insurance flagged Yes, with no amount disclosed.
Certifications
No ISO 27001 and no CCSS.

For anyone who weights independently verifiable custody, the missing audited reserve proof is the material gap, not the exchange’s size.

Fund access: the 2021 freeze and reimbursement delays

2021-12
During the hot-wallet hack, BitMart suspended both deposits and withdrawals.
2021-12-07
Withdrawals resumed.

Some users reported reimbursement delays of around five weeks. Whether you can get funds out during a crisis is a separate question from whether reserves exist on paper — and on this record, access was interrupted before it was restored.

Regulatory exposure: the FTC probe and a narrowing access map

The 2021 breach also drew the US FTC’s first-ever cryptocurrency investigation, opened in 2022 into operator Bachi.Tech; BitMart’s bid to quash the Civil Investigative Demand was denied, and the case was reported dismissed in 2023.

Access can narrow over timeA broad and growing restricted and excluded-country list, together with the absence of registration in several major jurisdictions, means the door open to you today can close later.
